Hello,
I was trying to put UBCD (ultimate boot cd) on a usb stick using the supplied 'ubcd2usb' but it didn’t work, so I thought I would use the command 'ubcd2usb f: h: d -1', but nothing appeared to happen….until I restarted. Some how it has made my 1.5TB hdd with all my stuff on from the past 10 years…not work, for lack of a better term. When I go into computer management it says the disk is not initialised. I know the datas all there but how do I get it back in too a readable state? I can only presume this program to get 'ultimate boot cd' has done something to teh MBR.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I have not re-initialized the disk. There are 10yrs worth of photos tv music on there!

Some how it has made my 1.5TB hdd with all my stuff on from the past 10 years…not work, for lack of a better term. That command i put in wrote the ubcd to disk 1 which was the 1.5tb hdd not the usb memory stick! But it didnt write the ubcd to the disk it just made it 'unfunctional'
I also did 'ubcd2usb f: h: d -2' which made disk 2 (the 750gb hdd with windows on it) also unfunctional.

I have another 300gb disk with windows on which I didnt wipe fortunately. So When I go into computer management it says the disk is not initialised for both of the 1.5tb and .75tb disks. I know the datas all there but how do I get it back in too a readable state? I can only presume this program to get 'ultimate boot cd' has done something to teh MBR.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I have not re-initialized the disk. There are 10yrs worth of photos tv music on there!

I know i could use software to recover my data.
I presume this would mean I would have to 're-initialize' the hard disk in Windows Disk Management?
I am scared that if I reinitialize it and use recovery software that all the filenames will be lost.
Is there anyway I can just write a new MBR to them?

If you value your data, do nothing further to the affected drives otherwise you risk further data loss.

It is good that you have a bootable drive to work with. I suggest a recovery program called GetDataBack ( It's not free, but has served myself and many other forum members very well in the recovery area. You will also need another drive to recover to, at least as large as your largest drive you are recovering from, which I believe is 1.5 TB.

GetDataBack has two versions, one for FAT and the other for NTFS, so be sure you get the correct one. Since the drives are still seen in Windows, GetDataBack should be able to work with them as they are.

The (free) trial version of GetDataBack will allow you to see if your data is recoverable, before you actually have to part with your money. You can't recover with this version but it's a very useful guide...

If you want to recover the data and partitions in place as they were, I suggest this program. There's a free and paid version. The free version will restore to another location, the paid version will restore in place. I've used it successfully on RAID and non-RAID partitions with great success over the past 5 or 6 years:
Active Partition Recovery

Either way, tread with caution. Think 5 times, THEN act. Read all you can about it.

Also, if you can afford to spend a couple hundred dollars, this'd be a good time, in my opinion to invest in a couple more hard drives, and try to use another program to copy the data over....

And if you're not real certain about your own abilities, or just don't want to risk it, you could get someone else to recover/back up the data for you. For instance, you can get it done by the folks who make GetDataBack:

Either way, this'd be a good time to consider alternatives for backing up that data to other media sources. [wink]
