can anyone help with a problem we are recieving with a home computer. After installing a firewall to filter out stuff such as a potential KLEZ virus, but once it was running i could dial up to my ISP but couldn't go anywhere.

so i uninstalled it, but still had no access anywhere. I tried pinging lots of people by name and IP but by name was unrecognisable and by IP address came back error code 10050.

I have completly removed cookies, history, restored all defaults but still no joy (on BTInternets advice).

The ISP is as helpful as a chocolate dart board

IP assignment is via DHCP, Release/Renew doesn't seem to respond which is odd.

When you uninstalled the firewall did you remove it from Add Remove Programs?

It was eSafe Desktop 2.2, and if i remember rightly i think i used its uninstall program then deleted any remains from Explorer and the Registry

Somehow the program is still resonant on your system. Just as good practice the best way to remove things is from the control panel. My suggestion is to reinstall the firewall and adjust the settings. The firewall is configured to block ICMP Echo and/or Echo Reply packets. This is why you are unable to ping anything. Check the 'ReadMe.txt' or manufacture documentation to find how to disable this feature. Then try accessing the internet and pinging remote hosts once this is accomplished. The only other thing I can think of is trying to restore your registry. Also after reinstalling the firewall if none of the above works try uninstalling through Add Remove in the control panel. That should remove ALL registry associations with that application. Good luck.
