Losing session in ssl

I have an ecommerce site where the users are logged in etc. When the customer goes to enter their card details they are directed to a ssl server. When this happens the session id's etc seem to be lost and the user is redirected to my restricted access / please login page. If they login via a https connection this does not happen.
I am using Ultradev, PHP4 and PHAkt.

Any help appreciated.

What I normally do in this case is to store the session id (and related info, if needed) in the database, and simply pass the session id to the secure order form as a parm on the URL.
