I have an Access 2002 database with a front end containing linked tables from another file. It runs in a novell environment and is concurrently used by up to 6 people.

There are several different error msesages that come up occasionally, varying from - "bookmark not found" to "unrecognised database format". It also sometimes leaves the .ldb file open after everyone has logged out.

I can get round problems as they occur. However the thing that I am most concerned about is that sometimes it creates duplicate records in an autonumber field and when I look at the table design the primary key setting has disappeared.

Can anyone shed any light?

Thanks

Hi

Do you have the database split into frontend/backend withe the front end on each users local drive, and the backend on a network drive?

The .ldb being left open suggests one or more users not exiting the application and then closing down the PC, or an application crash.

The "unrecognised database format", message(s) suggest database corruption. Is the application written with adequete record locking procedures? Is your Network infrastructure stable?

You will find several references to duplicated autonumbers on this site, although personally I have not encountered this.

Yes, we have the front end on each users local hard drive and the back end data on the network. I suspect the network isn't as stable as it could be, but have no way of monitoring it.

Is there anything I can do by way of file locking which might help? (I have set the registry key: opportunistic locking to 0)

Thanks for your help
