I recently bought an upgrade package consisting of K7S5A ECS mobo and AMD Athlon 1800+ CPU, 256 SDRAM, ATI RAGE PRO 128 32M AGP card plus 60G HD in a Power Tower case. The vendor was kind enough to put rest of my old peripherals FD, CDR & CDRW for me.
To get the PC going, I went into the BIOS to set the date and time and then set the FSB to 133MHz to make the CPU run at 1.5GHz. Formatted the HD to NTFS format using WINDOWS XP professional CD and then installed all the drivers for LAN, modem etc. supplied on a CD by ECS. Next I installed WINDOWS XP Professional and then loaded all the other application SW.
The problem I am experiencing is that randomly my PC clock, date and FSB are reseting to their default values. When the FSB defaults to 100MHz the CPU runs at 1.12GHz. This has happened to atleast 5 times in the last three months. I have made several attempts in recreating the problem/ situation but have not succeeded.
To set things right in my PC, I go into BIOS and change the FSB to 133MHz. The date & time I change it from WINDOWS. I am running McAffee antivirus all the time.
I have explained this to the vendor and he has not been able to assist in identifying the problem or correcting it.
I will appreciate any help in identifying and correcting the problem so that the BIOS setting do not randomly take on default values.
