ok.. debated where to put this but figured I would try here.

I have a Sun X4100 running
x4100:~ # cat /etc/SuSE-release
SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 10 (x86_64)
VERSION = 10
PATCHLEVEL = 4

When I fire up web interface to redirect console I can see it go through the bios and then splash screen for choosing boot and then lose console. I think the problem is on the SUSE side personally but am not a linux person.

I really do not think Sun hardware forum would resolve this as again I believe it to be some setting or something I am missing. Also Xming does not work for console.

I am 90% sure I had this working on RedHAT and I think at one point I had it working with SUSE 10 SP1 (can't remember)

Frustration level is growing... this is not a critical box and willing to try any suggestions. I will eventually reload 10 sp1 just to double check that but would be a good learning experience to resolve this issue.

I am one of those people that will not let this lie easily.. There has always got to be a resolution in my mind. Damn I will be dreaming about how to fix this all night ha ha

again any suggestion is worth a shot.

First of all I feel for you. As far as I am concerned the X4100/X4200s are CRAP as I used to support dozens of them and they provided me nothing but trouble (specifically with HBA cards -- but that's another issue)
With regards to console access are you referring to the ALOM (remote web console mgmt) not working after firing up the OS? As far as I know the OS doesn't typically have any bearing on the ALOM, but it is possible that your OS is using the same IP as the remote console connection? Have you tried accessing the ALOM via Telnet/SSH? I have had to use this once in awhile when the web based interface stopped working

ya I agree they are crap. I support 1000+ across the country. The ilom ip is different from the OS. I can watch the bios from both the console redirection and through the ilom at the same time. It is only when the OS starts loading that I lose console. Everything else function fine.

Pain in the arse. I did upgrade to latest firmware and ilom levels with no change. I am going to role this back to SUSE 10 sp1 and see if I get console redirection because I swear it was working.

Do you have to add custom gettys to /etc/inittab to get console redirection in the first place? Are they any different on this server to a working example?
