On Friday either my network card drivers or my video drivers auto updated and I lost my network connectivity when using TCPIP. It would no longer pull an address. I put in a static address and was able to access files and programs off the server, but still no IE or Outlook access. Next my display really started to act up, more frequently changing resolution and dim screen on start-up. I did a system restore and regained my connectivity. Then I tried to update the video drivers on the Nvidia web site. The result was that I lost connectivity again. I had to go back to the system restore function. This now has to be done every time I shut down. Baffled.

Computer - Inspiron 8100

Thanks. I should have researched more before I posted. My guess is Adaware was the culprit.

Update the AdAware version being used. The original Version 6 has a known issue with Winsock stack corruption.

It was AdAware that forced me to originally research the topics in faq779-4625 and it was AdAware that led to the writting originally by Option^Explicit of the WinsockFix tool.

Subsequent updates to AdAware make it a safe and reliable tool.

I remain a little concerned about the interaction on your machine with the Nvidia drivers. You might consider using the Driver Rollback feature of XP. Not all driver updates are good ideas, and Nvidia is a common complaint. The "latest and greatest" driver, particularly for the display, is often a bad idea.
