I've been having a problem with my laptop for a few days where my connection slowly deteriorates into nothing.

Occassionally the download/upload speeds will bounce up and down extremely for a while before completely going away so I thought it might have been interference with my wireless connection. I attached the cable modem directly and found the same problem though.

I've run several spyware tools and done a complete antivirus scan.

I've tried many things, but I'm just not that knowledgable with this area of computing, so any help would be appreciated.

Me neither - but since you state that its a laptop could it be a powersaving feature? Try to check the settings for the NIC.

Most issues tend to arise from the drivers in the network card (I work at an ISP) ... Try reinstalling your network card, and or upgrading your drivers. If you're using something like a Broadcom card, or 3com's 3c509, theyre very problematic. Aside from that, is this site independent, meaning does it happen going to one specific place, etc., also check your firewall rules if you have a firewall.
