Hi. It seems I'm loosing my internet connection whenever I leave the pc for a good time... when I come back to the pc, there is no internet and I have to reboot. what could be causing this please?
thanks in advance

stef.

You have not provided much information...

Are you on a persistant connection or dial up?

Is this a laptop or desk top?

What OS are you using?

And do forth...

You essentially asked 'my internet connection drops, can you tell me why'

"I know everything..I just can't remember it all

I forgot to ad I'm also sharing the connection via a D-link router..

seems to me that maybe the lease time is expiring on the router dhcp assingment.

Why do you have to reboot? Is there something else happening?

What, if anything, does the Event Viewer tell you?

Check 'Idle time before hanging up' setting on the options tab of the properties of your connection. It may be set quite short.

Thanks guys for your help.

And I also forgot to add I also using Zonealarm free firewall BTW...

@ krenkey : Where and what can I do to change this if it's the case?

@ linney: I meant I simply reboot in order to regain my internet connection . also I do not know what is Event Viewer and where to find it....

@ cricket: I'm trying to find connection properties with no luck yet... I tried control panel/internet options/ tab connections and I aslo tried control panel/network connections. in there I have LAN (Generic Marvell yukon) and I have 1394 connection ( 1394 net adapter ) . didn't see anything about Idle time in their properties... where to look for this please?

Regards

stef.

try restarting dns service in services. My dell does it occasionally i used to reboot to get internet back but after a think about it realised it had to be the dns as I could ping using ip address

@ seacider...

I'm very sorry to have to admit this again but once again... this time I can't find "services" . I checked in CP and didn't see this...

I believe I need good directions ...

"Check 'Idle time before hanging up' setting on the options tab of the properties of your connection. It may be set quite short."

Navigate to set Properties as follows:
Control panel->Network connections
You should be able to identify your connection from here, and right mouse it to set the properties

@ cricket

I believe I got it. it was control panel/network connection-right click LAN - General tab - configure Marvell - then power management - then uncheck " allow this computer to turn off this device to save power"

thanks to all for their help

I will see if it solved my problem later...

stef

Services, the Event Viewer, and more, can be accessed via a right-click on the My Computer icon and then selecting Manage.
