I am currently having an issue with T1 line and the provider says they can loop the smartjack but not the router? Is there something I would need to turn on on the interface for the to be able to loop it?

I am using a cisco 2621XM with a wic card in it....

ANy help would be greatly apperciated.

As I recall, the command is "loopback line" or something similar.

You probably should also create a T1 loopback plug and plug it into the NIU so that they can loop through the NIU. When they loop to it, they are looping to the front side of it, not *through* it. Even though they were able to loop to it, the NIU could still be going bad.

Stupid question... What is an NIU?

I saw three different commands:
loopback dte
loopback line
loopback remote

I wasn't really sure what the difference was...

NIU is the Smartjack, or Network Interface Unit. It's what your CSU/DSU is connected to. If you're using the WIC with the internal CSU/DSU, then it's what your router is connected to.

DTE: Loops the interface back to itself
Line: Loops back towards the telco
Remote: Sends a signal to the far-end CSU/DSU to go into loopback mode

You want "line".
