How can I loop one layer, but have the rest of the movie play forward? Any help is appreciated. Also, can anyone suggest a REALLY good resource for learning ALL about flash?...be it a website, a book, or even a precocious child geek who makes house calls? Thanks.

Hi Adam!

Don't think you can have a layer looping while the rest of the movie does something else... Until Dave comes up with one of his .flas.
You could have a another mc, or a gif, looping over another movie... But guess that's about it!

As for learning, if you've really been at it for only a month or so, you're way ahead of a lot of us, including myself. Best way I found, his looking at sites, and getting my hands on .flas I could rip apart!

If you didn't know about this reference, have a look at it, good place to start:

Okay, by "mc" do you mean to make a little movie-within-a-movie? And if yes, is this done with the load movie function? I've not tried it, but I think one of the .flas I got off of you had one in it. It was the one with the animated buttons--which I still have NO idea how you made...and have been searching around flashkit.com to try to find a tutorial.

And actually, after I posted my last message to you it dawned on me that I've been using flash for just over a month, not under as I had stated. I started about a week before Valentine's day..and if you're interested, and need a good laugh, you can check out my very first attempt. This was a valentine's card I sent to my girlfriend at work...the artwork is hideous. I had already spent over 20 hours on it--trying to learn the program and all--and I was running out of time.

And thanks for the site/learning info. I'm getting pretty excited about the limitless functions this program seems to have.

Only 20 hours for this! Give me a break!
Pat is going to love this one! She's so romantic!

Yes an mc (movie clip) was what I ment. If you're referring to Felix in my .fla, this in actually an animated gif in a mc looping. This one is on the stage of the main movie, but it could of been loaded on another level.

You'll get there in nowtime!

Hey Sam? Been cheating on us at the Generator forum?
Nice chap... This horrid! Isn't he?

The xdude has updated his site:

Guess he's a Canadian too! I'm not saying anything more!

Adam, if you go to the end of this one, there might some references helpful to you... On the xDude main page.

If you want to have a look at cartoons try this:

I find Joe Fish verry funny, so is The Boss, or anything that has the gerbil in it!

good day to you all!

may I also suggest checking out previous posts, it might sound like a hassle but myself and old, among many others, have posted a LOT of flas which can be ripped apart and explored at your leisure, and the chances are that the threads in which they are posted tell you exactly what they do and can be used for.

thanks to the both of you. I've checked out the joecartoon website before...pretty neat stuff there. And Dav, I've actually been travelling through older posts to see what else I could learn from you experts. I've had trouble getting some of your fla files though...do you delete the URLs? Thanks again.

Dave probably sleeping now! He in Scotland! (+6 hours EST)
He have a lot of problems with server today! Maybe that reason for dead links!

You can ask for some particular ones, he or me may have back-up copies we could post!
