I'm not sure on when to use loop compensation. I think the default value is short loop.

I believe the loop compensation should not be enabled if you have a "long loop" and should be enabled if you have a short loop. However, what is long and short? Is the "network tuning feature" the same as "loop compensation"?

Thanks for your help.

not quite the same, loop loss is measured in db, but most of us use a ohm limit to decide on loop treatment. for digital phones, don't bother. if they are past the limit it becomes a timing factor. for analog doubling the cable pair helps. unless the user suffers from loss of volumne, or ring is way down, i don't get out a meter. nortel does make an analog line card for phones in excess of 5000 feet
