Loop AA choice 0 back into AA and what is AA extension

We have a site that has been downsized and needs to use the auto attendant almost exclusively. Most callers know that when an auto-attendant answers just to hit zero and bypass the AA to a live person. Is there a way to set the auto-attendant choice zero to just replay the auto-attendant menu announcement?

Also if we have an extension that is heavily used in the past and we have downsized that position and no longer have an employ there is there a way to take direct calls into that extension's DID number and route that into the AA? For example, can we just set up a call forward on extension 2511 into the auto-attendant and let them pick where they need to go? Does the AA have an extension associated with it?

Merlin Mail, or Merlin Messaging?

Merlin Mail, you can create a new mailbox, and assign a class of service that points to the Automated Attendant.

Merlin Messaging, you can create a new mailbox, and assign it directly to the Automated Attendant.

Then change the Dial-0/Timeout option of your Auto Attendant to transfer to the mailbox you just created.


2nd question, coverage always goes to the original extension's voicemail, so a forward won't work. There is a limit on the number of mailboxes that you can assign to an auto attendant, but if it is just a few, you could do the same as above. ie, the DID rings the extension, covers to voicemail, and because of the COS or the AA assignment, the Auto Attendant answers the call.

If you have a PRI, you can use the routing table to translate incoming DID digits to the Voicemail Calling Group pilot number, and the AA will answer the calls.

I can delete the voicemail box then go back into the extension and assign it to the Auto Attendant. Worked!!

Also, I can point the Dial-0/Timeout to an extension that is assigned back to the auto-attendant. Bingo!!

Thanks for the assist. I would have never figured that out.
