Why is it that whenever I use the lookup wizard to take values from a table, the fieldname changes to the same name as the one in the lookup table?

I want to be able to use the same table of values for several fields so I need them to retain their original field names. Is this possible, or do I have to do it with combo boxes on forms?

Correct. The wizard is using the lookup field in place of original field ie. a name instead of a number. If you go to design view of your table that has the lookup field, click on the field you're using as the lookup field and under properties change Caption. Your main field should be the primary key to the table your looking up and caption reflects the looked up field. But you can change this name to anything you want.
