looking to retrieve data from table

I have a table with about 10 different fields, I would like to retrieve data from this table. What I am looking for is how to set up some type of shell in which I can choose a value and a field and then have each record in the table in which the field value matches my input value, then import the whole record (line) to a external program for manipulation. Or is it possible to do simple equations on data in a table and have the results in a report without exporting? I am kinda new at this and would appreciate any help
