I'm looking for a good backup software to replace my Maxtor backup that came with the disk drive. It would be nice if it would do an image backup but that's not a show-stopper. I just want something that is reliable.

I've been looking at these products: Genie Backup Manager 8, Migo PC Backup, 10 PC BACKUP - PRO 10, ShadowProtect Desktop 3.1

Does anyone have any experience with these (or have better ones)?

Thanks

From an Image point of view I like and use software from Terabyte and can happily recommend the use of the programs. Other like software from Acronis.

Terabyte Unlimited

Acronis True Image 10 Home

If you just want to backup a few folders, have a look at something like SyncToy from Microsoft.

Thanks linney and BadBigBen.

The reason Acronis wasn't on my list of backup products is because of a bad review it was given:

The "image" backup is indeed very important but only if these programs work across different disk geometries/sizes so that they could be restored on new/different disk drives (if needed). But also having a fast backup of all of all of my files on a "changed file" basis that I can run daily is equally important (I know I don't have the time to run a "full-image" backup every day)

I would go with a two tier approach, as to back up...

1. do a Full image every 2 weeks or once per week... keeping two images out of three, e.g. 1st, 2nd backup as starter, then the 3rd comes along, and delete the 1st, when 4th comes along delete the 2nd, etc...

2. do a full data backup once, and then using SyncToy or similar to copy only the changed data files...

I've got one customer using PCBACKUP. An earlier version developed issues but they seem to be straightened out with the current one.

Good controls, good reporting, and good logging.
