I've been looking through google hits for a while now and have found some software close to what I am looking for, but not quite close enough.
Basically I am looking for something that will be able to monitor bandwidth usage across the network before it hits the outgoing line. I know that I could probably do something along the lines of pulling back data from the routers, but I'm lookig for an ISP-type solution similar to how they calculate bandwidth usage and such for customers. I had considered calling some of the companies in my area to ask but doubted I would get any decent info from technical support if I started asking them what software they use
For the record, I don't care if local companies use the same software or not, i'm not looking at trying to get around limits or anything, I have a fairly large network that will need to be monitored that all comes back to a fiber line to the backbone. Functionality would need to include bandwidth monitoring, usage monitoring, and some sort of storage or stoarge option so I could look at total bandwidth or usage over a specified period of time. Detecting downed devices and such would be a nice addition but is much further down the list since I already have a slew of options in that area. OS doesn't matter as long as it's not some sort of mainframe, windows/*nix would be preferable.
Hope someone has some ideas, or even some better search terms I can try in google,
