Looking for SW Install Notification software

I am in need to of a piece of software that will notify a user when some attempts to install a piece of software. I need to gather a software inventory (probably manually) of every machine then install this software that will notify myself when someone tries to install any new software.


I looked at SMS and Tivolli and they are overkill for what I want.

Try going out to the BSA (Business Software Alliance) and the SPA (Software Publisher's Association) websites. I'm pretty sure they have a self-analysis program you can run on your user's PCs. You might want to do this from an anonymous PC somewhere so you don't attract unwanted attention ;-)

I know for a fact that they have one they use when they come knocking at the door (there was a disgruntled employee two jobs ago who phoned in an anonymous tip in payback for being laid-off).
