I would like to buy an updated anti-virus program. I currently have three computers to install this on. I was thinking, "I wonder if it would be cheaper to have some family memebers go together and buy a multi-license (small business) version." So, I turn to you guys for advice. I know there are several different programs out there. Right now, I am primarily using AVG Anti-Virus (free version). But I think I would prefer a paid product. Would something like this work? Any thoughts?

What are you using for operating systems? Are they networked? Does it need to be end user deployed for updates?
Too many questions to give any real answers.

You can look at the different threads here in virus discussions on the best products and why, I think it has been rehashed a dozen times or more. It really depends on your environment and what you are willing to spend.
The best products cost $$ and everyone has a different opinion on which is better and why or why not.

Hope this gives you a start anyways,

Kimber

I was recently at a seminar at our var's office.
I was commenting that my kids have a couple of flavors of instant messengers installed on one of my systems and removing them didnt appear to be a choice since - among other things - they need them for some school related communication. I was told I should get new version of Norton because it includes scanning for instant messenger apps. I got a two user version, with a prior owner discount with a mcafee cd. I've not installed it yet-so no comments about how it works.

thread760-635253 has a multiuser recommendation.

Little different thought-Im not sure about the appropriateness of your approach-It seems to me to be kind of a stretch to say that 2 or 3 or 4 (etc) households are the equivalent of 1 business for the purpose of licensing a software package. Unless all these family members are under the same roof, I'd think you're looking at buying as many base packages as you have households in your extended family group, which probably defeats your cost sharing objective.

I am thinking it might be best to call a place like CDW and see what they can do. Or would it be better to call the manufacturer? I was thinking between Norton and McAfee since these are the two most widely used ones out there. I think beyond that I would go by price.
