Looking for spam blocking code 1

I've been getting flooded by spam-bots in a guestbook form on the order of hundreds of entries per day. I've been looking for some code to require submitters to type in a random set of characters to verify they're not a bot but haven't found anything. Could someone point me to some sample code or a tutorial on the subject? Thanks.

I wrote my own (simpler) method :
Why is your method simpler? Do you mean simpler as in easier to implement or simpler in terms of security/features? What happens if the OP isn't using PHP?
