Looking for Software vendor.

Hi everybody.

This is my first post.
I have on-site computer service located in New Jersey. Sometimes I need software for my customers. Usually it's software like Symantec Antivirus, Systemworks, XP upgrade, Acronis True Image.
Sometimes I see those great tempting deals, like Symantec Antivirus 2005 free after mail in rebate. I'm talking about local retail stores like CompUSA, BestBuy, CircuitCity, Staples, OfficeMax, Office Depot.
I would love to be able to buy Symantec Antivirus for $49.99 and free after MIR.
I know that I can fax my resale certificate to any store like Staples, then they will let me buy stuff without sales tax. I'll collect sales tax when I'll sell product to end user.
But what if good deal is not in Staples but in different store ? Am I suppose to fax resale certificate to all those stores ? and usually when I fax it, I have to wait at least 48 hours.

I want to walk into store, buy it, pay by cash or visa and sell it to my customers.

I'm really confused. Please advice me. I need 2x Antivirus software this week.

Yes, you should fax your resale certificate to as many different suppliers as you have.

I suggest the same- get a resale account set up in advance with the stores.

Also, at least in CA, you get credit when you file your return for the tax that you've paid on items that you later sold. So, unless they have a price break for the resale accounts, it doesn't really matter whether you pay the tax up front or not.

It certainly does matter, to short term cash flow. Otherwise you are letting the state use the 8% (or more) of sales tax for the entire time. This is very much like overpaying your federal income taxes just so that you get -- oh goody -- a big refund.

dgillz, I think that's obvious. It "certainly does matter", but only to the business or individual involved. They can make their own decision.

I'd generally suggest not paying anything up front if it can be avoided. However, I doubt that I would go through the trouble to save the sales tax on a box of diskettes at Staples. Time and effort is worth more than a dollar or less.
