Looking for Scheduling Database

Hello All!
I have spent weeks trying to do this, then spent several days looking for shareware / freeware.
I need a DBase to use for resource scheduling. I have certain pieces of serialized equipment that we loan out as needed, but we have had the problem of 2 people trying to loan out the last item. Major headache...
I have used the MS Access wizard to create a Resource scheduler, but it works based on time / date. I need something that will allow our staff to choose only items that are not already scheduled, therefore sidestepping any chance of overlapping.
Can anyone point me to a fairly inexpensive pre made DBase? I don't need a final product, just something I can use as a starting point.

After re-reading my post, I realized that I left out the fact that I need this to work for dates, rather than times. most of our equip. will be loaned out for a 2 week period each time.
I am still batting my head against a brick wall it seems. Thanks for any help...

I don't understand the distinction. Time is part of Date. You can make to work for a duration of .5 Days or 15 Days. What's the fundamental difference?

If you're using Exchange/Outlook, you can get the admin to create a shared calendar for each resource, and then have everyone update the shared calendar. This is of course programmable so if they want something even fancier like reports, you can do that as well.

Access ought to be able to work for you. I don;t understand the thing about why it can't work dues to date/time.

Set up a STATUS table and a TRANSACTION table.

The STATUS table has Item and Status (IN or OUT)

The TRANSACTION table has Item, OutDate and InDate.

An Item MUST be in the STATUS table

An Item may or may not be in the TRANSACTION table.

If its NOT in the TRANSACTION table, then its Status is IN.

Otherwise if the InDate Is Null, the Status is OUT, else its IN.

The only Items in STATUS that can be checked out are IN.

PSeale - Unfortunately, we are not using exchange & yes, it would be the best way to approach the problem.

Skip - Sorry for the confusion. Until you mentioned it, I hadn't thought about how the Date / Time statement I made must have sounded. What I meant, was that in contrast to the "Resource Scheduler" I got from the wizard, which shows one date & several time increments (like a doctor's office appointment book). I ran into the problem with several lines for each customer, for each day, as well as a lot of repetitive data entry. What I am trying to do is document Date1 - Date2, instead of Date1, 8:00 - 9:00, Date1, 9:00 - 10:00, etc. for each day.

Also, thank you for the pointers & I will try them out to see if I can come up with what I need.
