I'm looking for anyone who has used any Toshiba phone systems and has any suggestions. My CFO wants a new phone system to replace our Merlin Legend that works fine. I don't have any knowledge of Toshiba phone systems, I know merlin, Sys75 and Nortel only. We need 12 trunks and 45 stations

He's one of theses guys that thinks that a 5 year old telephone system "must" be too old to handle the "modern world"... The thing is I know I can upgrade my current Legend (already V7.0) with additional ports and change from the old 7300 series phones to something with a display....
But the president of the company won't like it ( he liked the old 5 button phones). We have voice mail ... no DID... The president WON'T allow auto-attendant (he wants a PERSON to answer the phone when we're open for business, its "OK" for after hours.
The CFO came from a company where he had a toshiba then changed to a Nortel.... I don't care for the Nortel system, so I'm looking for anybody who has used a Toshiba.. My brother got burned years ago on a old toshiba.

I have several customers with the DK280 system as well as the smaller dk40i systems and quite a few older systems as well. They seem to be happy with it. As a tech I find its terminology and procedrues to be very cumberson. But it is O.K. in my opinion. I am a strong supporter Nortel systems. So how much do I know. I find the Nortel much more user freindly then the toshiba systems. I also have had some problems with the toshiba voice mails. Hope you find what you need and things work out for you folks.

Upgrade your legend to Magix. You can get newer digital phones with display and possibly re-use some of your existing equipment.

Forgot to mention, if he really wants to take a leap, then upgrade to the IP Office from Avaya.

Go with an Avaya IP Office! You get the WOW factor of having an IP system, but you can still use digital phones on it if you want.

I used to be a toshiba tech. I have about 8 factory certifications with toshiba products including the CTX lines, In my opinion, if you go with a toshiba, get the CTX670 model, or the CTX100. They are a stable platform to work off of. They are not very user friendly for administration though. The tech. has to be involved in many more administrative functions than with the Merlin, or any avaya system. The programming is more cumbersome, and less pre-configured than with Avaya products. If you go with toshiba, call toshiba direct and get a recommendation for a local dealer to make sure you get a competent one. There are not as many sources of support or service for toshiba localy as with avaya, less competition= less expertise. Get administration training included, if you have an IT professional with your organization. Where are you at, I may be able to reccomend a dealer, if you go with Toshiba. I would however feel more comfortable recomending the IPOffice, or upgrade your Merlin. Previously a toshiba sevrice techs opinion. Good luck, hopefully this is not to late for you to read this before you make your decisions.

Toshiba makes a nice, and resonably inexpensive, product. As stated above, it can be annoying to program. I would highly recommend simply upgrading your Merlin to a Magix. You will still be able to use your current phones. I will also state the, while the wow factor on the IP office might be nice, I would stay away from it until it has a longer track record.
