I will be building a linux server soon (for work) that will be highly customized - both in apps installed and various parameters. Once done, that install will need to be rolled into an image of some sort so that it can be applied to many more servers (they all need to be identical). I have looked at some of the various tools ie clonezilla, but they all seem to require an image server be set up someplace (which is not an option) or something similar which makes them unworkable options. I will need to take this image and ship it to other locations for it to be laid down there. The image would preferably need to be stored on a USB device (thumb drive or disk). Also, the resulting image should be in a common format - ie "dd" output, ISO, tar, etc.
I am leaning towards "dd" at the moment but would like to know how others have approached this.
