Well if you want chat, I definitly wouldnt go with Java chat clients, (they're just a poor example of what an IRC client has to offer)
IRC = Internet Relay Chat
goto mirc.com and get mirc there(or pirch.com , i dont like pirch but some people like it) the server listing will have some servers to connect to Dalnet is ok(should have alot of programming help channels, but be warn dalnet is a creepy crawling place of kiddy porn, warez, and wana-be hackers, so um, just try to stick to the help chans, and try not to wander afar, the other one is efnet, which you too will find in the listing, far as i know efnet has no services but they're one of the biggest most used servers, theres nothing you cant find on it)

Other options that are a bit more um, calm
*UnderNet
*Newnet

in Mirc once yer in a server there should be a button you can click to download channel listings(this may take a very long time on servers like dalnet(slow) and undernet(faster), and some servers like Efnet wont even let you do a listing(just do what i do type in like /join #java, or some other guessed channel name)

need more info? mirc.com should have that, or going to some place like #mirc is ok
i'm always on irc.webchat.org in #z nickname as kb244{fastHACK} (you wont find this server on the list so you can just add it)
Karl
kb244@kb244.8m.com
<a href=
