I am researching different POS systems, and am looking for hardware and software. This is for a small retail store with 2 locations. We need it to be able to download/tranfer financial data to a non POS computer, for total sales and such, and have 4 registers at one location and one at the other. We need data from both stores together as well.

We need software that will take care of sales, inventory (nlcuding separating invoices of product between the stores, then tracking all merchandise), department totals as well as annual, we would like to be able to print order invoices out based on sales and we need credit card support. We already have video rental software and an Access credit database, which we would like to assimilate into the program or at least use with it. We need all hardware, but have the necessary computers.

Can anyone suggest a company to get POS and harware from? We currently are using regular cash resisters and doing all the rest by hand... None of us know very well how to install everything, so good instructions and support are a must too.

Thank you all very much for your help.

Check out Infotouch, it has everything you specified.

Check out rms and you prob want to use sbs 2000. It is the cheapest way to get sql server in your shop, along with mail and everythign else. That way you can get a decent db to run the pos osftware on it.

Most of the POS guys will charge you 2 - 3k for the database license, then charge you for the pos software. If you are a ms house, you can pick up small business server 2000 for $1200 or so, (pick up a ISA firewall wall - which you will need to linkthe sites), then you can link two sites over a dsl line and run the sites and replicate the data.

Just to comment on mkatzer - if your referring to Microsoft’s Retail Management Systems when you say rms - you don't need to buy sql server unless you plan on running a ton of lanes. It comes with MSDE for free and works just fine unless you’re doing over a thousand transactions a day.

We specialize in RMS - drop me a line if you want more info.

the best way to start is find out if the application that your using right now (ie. accounting or inventory) have an import or export functionality. start from there. now if you just want to process data to another computer, mot pos front end have an excel export for you to process data.
