I am looking for examples of generating Business Letters using PowerBuilder.

Right now, the existing Letter that I got assigned to work on are implemented via DataWindows. Some of these letters take more than 1 page and I don't know how to set them up properly. I have worked with Crystal Reports which allows putting certain data (addressee info, date) in a page or report header section so that it appears on all pages.

I am so new at PowerBuilder that I don't even know if Datawindows are the way to go.

I appreciate any How To articles, examples, tips and tricks associated with generating Letters with PowerBuilder.

thanks

Yes there's a datawindow type that supports RichText format.
It's one of the types you can choose when you create a new datawindow. It has a header and footer too.

I've built 'mail merge' type functionality in PB using OLE with MS Word. It all depends upon what the document is and how much variable data you need to put into it. If it is simple name, address, past due amt, etc. type stuff you might be better off with this type of approach rather than composing the entire document in PB.

I wrote a FAQ on this available on the forum FAQ page.
