I have a old Proliant 3000 model 6/600 Model Array 512K 154260-002

With 2 18.2GB Wide Ultra SCSI drives. The Compaq part # for the current 18.2 GB drive is 142673-B22

I am looking to add a single large drive, either
a 36.4GB Compaq Part # 176496-B22
or
Maybe 72.8GB Compaq part # 232432-B22.

Will either work? is there a Bios or firmware issue?

Thanks in advance

The great thing about Compaq drives is that they are "universal" - backward compatible.

The only thing is you can't add the bigger drives to your raid set without losing the extra space. Therefore if you want to add 36GB with just one drive, it won't be protected.
