I am looking for a portable POS device that allows for collection of data via credit card swipe, has a built-in printer (ie. thermal), build-in OS (ie. WinCE) and uses 802.11x to transfer data to a custom application (ie. API's available).

We want to swipe a customer card, send via 802.11x to our own application (which does the cc verification), gets confirmation back via 802.11x and then prints out a customer cc receipt.

Most of what I have seen so far on the market, the devices interface with a Merchant Solution cc verification plan. We already have that thru our custom application, we just want to change (add another option) the POS front-end.

Hi bbnw,

What kind of industry are you in?

It sounds like your looking for;
a) a hardware solution and
b) a software solution that works with the hardware and will work with your custom credit card app

Correct?

As the other Rfeuling mentioned, a little more info is required to make helpful suggestions, but we do what we can :). Check out They do make a handheld that will swipe and print at tableside, but it's geared toward the table service industry. Not sure to what degree it can be customized or if it is your industry, but it's worth a look.

MICROS has two software products that will do this front end work. The 9700 and the 3700 product lines both have mobile applications that work on Symbol CE 8846 devices. These have mag card and scanners, the MICROS software has an API (called CAPMS) for credit card authorization and settlement. Thet both can print to a portable/mobile Extech IRDA printer. If the API needs to be modified there's an embedded language inside called SIM the POS that allows direct access to your DLL calls.

Hope this helps!
