Hello world,
Looking for some vpn hardware and wondered if anyone could make a suggestion or feedback. The client has some very specific requirements.
1. There's 3 sites in total
2. Each site has two different adsl lines for vpn (prime and backup)
3. They want a single hardware unit per site, supporting 2 x wan connections
4. Only one line per site needs to be used at any one time
5. The isps have a mixture of pppoe and pppoa connections
6. They insist that if the prime line goes down, the switch over to the backup line must happen automatically
7. The switch back from the backup to prime can be done manually
8. We have a variety of adsl modems which can be used, though new ones can be purchased.
At present traffic is routed internally (with a completely separate and fully working system for internet, email etc, and the vpn carries citrix traffic. The old equipment (a vigor) is not working with the pppoa connection, hence the reason for the change.
Anyone recommend anything that would tick all these boxes. Everything I've looked at fails on at least one thing.
To give you an idea, my suggestion was simply to have a standard adsl modem supporting site to site vpn as the prime connection with a fixed IP, and have a powered off backup modem. Then if the prime failed at any of the three sites, the prime units would be switched off and the backup (configured with the same lan IP as the prime) switched on. This was deemed far too complicated. So the switch over needs to be simpler than a user operating a power socket....
Suggestions welcomed kindly.
Cheers all.
