Hi

I have a scanner I just got drivers for, but I still get a message asking me to connect the scanner or turn it on - does anyone know where I might find a solution/fix for this problem? Or at least a forum where I can post my question?

It's an agfa scanner, and there was no forum on the agfa site.

Thanks.....:)!

Consider it asked. More details please. Interface? Cables?

Hi............:)

Well I got the drivers for it from Agfa - it's a snapscan e50......and I'm running windowsXP

I installed the drivers - but I keep getting this message that says something like this: connect your scanner or turn it on.

I checked the cables, they seem fine, and I don't think it's the usb ports coz I plugged in my digital camera and that works fine.
Could it still be the cables to the scanner?

In theory you bring the system up with the scanner powered up but disconnected and after the system is loaded you plug the USB cable in and it is detected. USB isn't my thing but there are others here that will help.
And yes, cables can cause the problem. If one of the USB ports works with the camera, you could always unplug the camera and plug the scanner in there to bypass a possible bad USB port.

Are you sure you didn't just load the Agfa's software (the user interface to the scanner) I have been caught out a few times assuming that this software contained the actual drivers for the device.
What you are looking for is something called a "Twain" driver.
The other thing I can think of is that sometimes there is a specific sequence by which you have to connect scanner, and load software/drivers, sometimes it's connect and turn on scanner first, other times you load the drivers first then connect and turn on scanner, either way this should be explained in the manual (manual should be available online if you don't have one)
You may be better off uninstalling what you have done thusfar and starting again, step by step in the correct order.

It is a driver issue. If the client OS is Win2k/XP then you want the driver to be WIA compliant. It is certainly possible the scanner is not supported for full HCL compliance under XP. Check the WHQL list, or stick in the XP CD and run the compliance test. The other issue is whether the adapter interface is compliant.

I have had much better luck if using Twain by using the Third-party tool Silver Fast. Please check their web site to see if you can use this remarkable Third-Party Twain extension tool.

It is very much scanner version dependent.

If you can use it for your scanner model, you will never bother agfa or Microsoft for a different Twain driver.

Hi Tina2002,

I also have the same problem as you are facing... did your problem got solved, please help me if you are able to use your scanner.

(In my case, I have AGFA SNAPSCAN 310 parallel port version scanner. I downloaded drivers from AGFA site and finally after full installation getting the message "Connect scanner or turn on"... WEIRD! ).

edfair, paparazi--> you can suggest solutions, please!

Thanks
Zib

Not my thing, but the first question regards the parallel port mode. Probably requires other than SPP. Should be covered in the manual.
