Look for a voice API for Windows

I am looking for an API that will monitor michrophone volumelevel and interact with a keyboard key.

Kinda like voice activation from the mic to the keyboard, a voice actived switch or VOX.

I say API because I want it to be integrated into existing software.

I've done some searching, here and on the web, but came up empty. Any help in the way of where to begin looking will be gratly appreciated.

If I had to guess, and I feel like I do, I would say that you are looking for SAPI (Speech API). You can download it from MS.

But for my money, I'd probably just implement Dragon Naturally Speaking.
