Longitudinal Redundancy Check (LRC)

Anyone have code to generate an LRC (Longitudinal Redundancy Check) from a string? I'm sending data on a modem connection and the format requires me to calculate this and append it to the string being transmitted.

I'm using 7/E/1 with no data compression if that makes any difference.
