Not sure if it's a coincidence that there are some similar posts turning up and I had the same problem last week, but worth a look all the same...
Check the schedule on the appropriate connector in the Routing Groups, as it might have mysteriously changed to something other then 'Always Run' like mine did...
Right mouse>Properties>Delivery Options tab from the Exchange System Manager
I would recommend Veritas Backup Exec, the off the shelf package does not come with the Exchange component necessary for a brick level backup. I have used a variety of backup softwares and by far Backup Exec is the best and friendlies to work with.
