Hi,

I installed win2K professional and since that moment it is impossible to obtain, with the same applications (codesoft 4, bartender), the long filenames, which worked perfectly in win98, win95.
All filenames are truncated to the old dos 8.3 system.
When saving files, indicating a longer filename, windows replies with an "invalid filename".

Can someone indicate me if this is this a known problem and how I can solve this without updating all my good old perfectly working aplications?

Many thanks in advance.

Was this a clean install of 2k? I've never seen a long filename problem with 2k (often with 95 & 98...) - just wondering if you upgraded to 2k and have brought some problem(s) along from old operating system? (backup, wipe diks & clean install is best way to go - IMO).

What is 'Codesoft 4, Bartender' for an application?

What I know: If it's written in Clipper/DOS and it uses the LFN functions from DBLFN.LIB then this won't work, as this lib is definetly NOT going to work on NT-like environments. The developer has to use other libs to get that going.
If it's a Windows app: Keep searching, but don't forget that has a registry setting to enable/disable the use of 8.3 filenames vs. long filenames.
