I am running Solaris 8 and when a cdrom is automounted all long files are truncated to 8.3 format. How can I get around this. Please be gentle, I'm just a beginner.

Thanks,
Nick

if they cdrom was written on a windows machine, it will only display the short filename to the Solaris Box ... sorry

if it's a disk made on a unix machine, or one with a proper ISO FS standard format then you should be able to read it correctly.
