We have a new 4.11 server that is patched and the long file name work when you save to the vol1 but if you save to the sys volume it will not work.I have put the load long statement in at the console and it verified that the command did work and I also checked the volumes to see if it had added it to the volume and it did but it still will not work.I also put it in the startup.ncf and rebooted the server.Nothing works.

LOAD SERVMAN and verify that the volume says it has long support on it..Also what client are you using to connect??

You have to add long name space to the volume. This is a one time thing. From the console:
add name space long to sys

We are using client 3.1 with the patch and I did enter the add long name space to the volume sys, also servman says dos, long is loaded. As far as the client goes we have not had users save to their user directory,we found out the long file names did work when we were copying the files of the user directory from the old server to the new server.
