I am bringing in a "Long" field from my database. The field (called Comments) truncates in Impromptu. When I look at the Profile, it shows me the Comments field is coming in as "Text" "4". A co-worker informed me that once I have the report developed, I will need to edit the SQL to actually bring in the "Long" field. The report will require modification and updates down the road from the end-users. I don't feel editing the SQL would be appropriate as the modifications would then have to be built using SQL. Suggestions, Comments, Ideas please? Thanks in advance!

Becky,

If you absolutely have to modify the SQL, what I used to do was to make a read-only copy of the report just prior to making the SQL modifications. Then if you need to modify the report later, just go back to this 'backup' copy, make your report changes, save it again as 'read-only', then reapply the SQL modification to a copy of the changed report.

Kudgy, but it works.

Had the same thing happen to me with a Memo field that I was trying to bring over.
Simple fix:
In Administrator, go to Report/Query/Access. Either uncheck the box that says 'Maximum number of characters to be retrieved for large text items' or change the number of characters that are retrieved in the editable box.

Thank you Jful23! My report is now beautiful!! You have saved me trying to edit SQL over the long weekend. Now I can relax and stress less. The managers were all hot and bothered over the comments "cutting off" in their report!

Thanks again,
~Becky

You're welcome. I was also very relieved to discover that SQL modifications were not necessary! :)
