long directory names for users in netware 5.1 5

I can't seem to get some new users to see there home directory in Netware 5.1 because the name is longer than 8 characters.

I'm getting the error message: login-4.21.15-470: the specified drive mapping is an invalid path.

We had the same problem.
The user needed to update to the newest Novell client.

In one case, Windows messaging needed to be updated.

One issue is the %LOGIN_NAME script variable truncates to 8 characters so if you use something like this:

Map root H:=SHSYD01\VOL1:\STAFF\HOME\%LOGIN_NAME

to map users home drives it will not work with users login names more than 8 characters.

Actually, you can get around this by not using the %LOGIN_NAME variable to do what you are trying to do. Simply use %HOME_DIRECTORY instead.

your map statement would no longer be

Map Root H:=Server\Volume:\Users\%Login_Name

but it would now simply be

Map Root H:=%Home_Directory
