Long Directory Name Problem with Access 97

I'm having problems with long filenames (well, directory names actually, the long filenames work fine) and Access 97 running on Win95.

If the .mdb file is "C:\Data\Test long filename.mdb" double-clicking the file in Explorer opens it fine. However, if it is "C:\DataDirectory\Test long filname.mdb" Access returns an error message stating that file "c:\DataDire\test long filename.mdb" cannot be found. The full directory name is cut back to 8 characters. Very frustrating, especially when trying to set up a database to run from a shortcut on the clients desktop.

Is this a known problem? Is it a Win95 or Access problem? Is there a workaround or a fix?!

Thanks for any help/tips/leads,
SamC.

In your shortcut do you have quotes " around the filename? You may also want to try including the full path to the Access directory, as well as the database.

For example,

"C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office\MSAccess.exe" "C:\DataDirectory\Test long filname.mdb"
