Long Delays with IWR

We are running Cognos Series 7 MR1 in a distributed server environment. I explain the environment a little more below. The problem we are having is that a user can run an IWR report and receive excellent response time. In fact they are receiving their report within 12 secs. Then the user attempts to perform a drill through to another IWR report. When this occurs it can take 52 seconds or more before the process meter appears. Once the meter appears, the report runs in 12 secs. During this time that the screen is still displaying the report but the process meter is not displayed, there is no sign of the report running on IWR.

Has anyone seen this? My users are getting very frustrated because it does not appear like anything is happening.

In our Dev environment, we have an IWR dispatcher on a stand alone NT machine. The gateway, Access Manager, and Upfront all sit on another NT machine. QA is designed the same way. Production is a little different. It has the gateways on its own machine.

Thanks,

Michael,

Odd problem indeed -- I would turn on auditing on your server, perform the drill through you mentioned, and then turn off auditing and review the auditing data -- it is easier to look at that data if you import it into the access schema supplied or into MSSQL/Oracle schema. It might be helpful to perform the same audit in one of the other environments so you have a baseline to compare your results to..

Good Luck!

Pedro,

Thank you for the idea. We have learned something since I last posted. During the delay, the request is not even making it to the iwr server. It appears that the upfserver.exe is spiking in cpu usuage during the 45-60 second delay. When the delay is over, you begin to see the status bar on the browser and the iwr process begins working on the iwr machine. During the iwr process the delay is only 5 secs.

We are wondering if it has to do with something with upfront security. On the drill through newsitem, we have set security for 200 user classes. If we change this to like 2 user classes, there is no delay. Does anyone know of any threshold on the number of user classes that you can set a newsitem to in Upfront (series 7 MR1)
