Long delay before IE becomes usable

For some reason my Norton LiveUpdate couldn't connect to the symantec servers or whatever and now IE won't actually go anywhere for about 5 minutes and once it's "ready" it works just fine... The delay seems a lot like the "detecting proxy settings" delay when you first run IE on a new install with cable. It checks, finds that there's nothing to detect, and you're on your marry way.

Anyone have any clue what I could do to fix it? I uninstalled NAV and NU along with LiveUpdate and LiveReg (anything relating to Norton is gone) and it still doesn't work right... I reinstalled IE after first reverting back to the windows default config of IE5.

Thanks for any help.

Go into the IE set-up (right click the browser, go to properties, connections tab) go through the set up and uncheck the "search for proxy". If that doesn't work, check for any updates @
I hope this helps ya out. WMH

It fixed itself somewhere along the way... I actually unchecked "search for settings automatically" but I did that during the reinstall of NU so that may have fixed things or something else may have :)

Thanks.
