Hi,

I'm having a problem with long strings not being contained in a div container. The strings are computer generated and contain all manner of quotes and slashes so I don't want to go down the php route (I've tried).

I've noticed the 'code' TGML tags on this site handle it correctly and they (tek-tips) use css (according to the source code).

Here's an example of one of the strings correctly contained and is exactly what I'm after:
Code:
{"0$#0"$0D%2%&0"'1/(0#,0|/0920|@0DB0#D2)F0DJ0DK2)M0"O0#P0DT0#U0#V0#X0#Y0#Z0#]3D^0#`0)a2&b0"c0"d0$e2Dg2Dh0Aj0Dk0)l0Dn0Do2Dq1Dr0"s1Dt0"u1Dv0"w1Dx0"y0D~(#/43)/3~!0"B+?,@-.5?6@7+?G@GA6I(J(K(}

If I haven't explained the problem accurately you can see the issue at the bottom of this page [URL unfurl="true"]http://aslett.net/geek.php?geek=ebox[/url]

Are you saying that your string falls out of the container? If you do not have a character that breaks the string, then you cannot do anything to make it fit in the container if it is too long. You could use word-wrap: break-word; in CSS, but that only works in some browsers.

It seems that tilde character is counted as a break, so it works in Tek-Tips, because the container is wide enough.
