lone pc won't see printer on network

have 5 hp pavillions running win-xp and one nec running win-98 in one big happy network, except that the nec/win-98 pc does not recognize the hp 1100 printer while all the hp/win-xp's have no problem ... how can I beat the nec/win-98 into submission and make it see the printer?
