Is there a way to change the default drive naming convention (sharename on server)? or Is there a way to have the drive letter preceed the path?

thanks

Are you asking about
net use k: \\servername\sharename?

You can do this on the server as well as the work stations.

Are you talking about home directories in user Profiles, or other mapped drives. Do you have a script?

Please post some more info.

**Okay, have you tried rebooting the machine?**

i'm refering to microsoft's default naming convention. when you run windows explorer, and there are mapped drives, you will see something like:

local disk (C:)
word_docs on server1\marketing (S:)
excel_docs on server1\marketing (T:)

i know you can rename the drives during an active session. ie:

word (S:)
excel (T:)

however, once you logoff the default naming is restored.

my question: is there a way to permanently change the name or move the drive letter designation to the front (or left)?

thanks
(hope it makes more sense)

I think you need to either close Windows Explorer while holding down the Ctrl Key, or choose the Save Settings on Exit choice in Group Policy.

I hope you find this post helpful. Please let me know if it was.

Regards,

Mark
