Hello. I've been trying to make a message display during a user logon process on a client computer. I read some articles and it said to go to the GPO editor and

Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Local Policies\Security Options and edit "Interactive logon: Message text for usrs attempting to log on"

I have defined a message and it doesn't seem to work. Am I doing something wrong? Or does this only apply to a computer object and not a user object? If so, how can I make it apply to a user object?

Policies are already applied to the OU. Other defined policies work, eg: defined wallpaper.

I used to have similar problems when I started my adventure with group policies. I applied the policies but they seemed
not working.

the "Interactive logon: Message text for usrs attempting to log on" is a computer specific policy! do you have the computers account within the OU to which the policy is applied?

the wallpaper is woring because it is the user specific policy!

so assuming, check whether the computer account is in the OU you have applied the policy to.

majcher, I you are on the right track. It is applied to the computers.

Is there a way of setting or setting something like the "Interactive logon: Message text for users attempting to log on" and apply it to the users?

use the group policy spy in the 2003 resource kit on the client machines and make sure the polices are reaching the machines !

there is no way to set "Interactive logon: Message text for users attempting to log on" to apply to users because as i've said before it is a computer specific policy. this policy is executed after pressing ctrl+alt+del.
Think, before the user is logged how do you get its username.

If you would like to display the message for certain users it must be done during the logon proccess, for example messagebox called by a logon script.

you can write a script that will apply only to certain users or groups.

hope this helps
