Logitech Head Set: Recognition not automatic anymore?

Hi

Both my wife and I use Skype a lot.
To do this we both use a Logitech USB head set.

On both of our computers it used to automatically switch over to the headset when we would plug it in.

My PC started not doing it first and I just got into the habit of going into sounds/audio and switching it manually when I wanted to use it.

Now my wife’s laptop has quit switching as well.
She is not a computer person and wants it to do it “The way it used to!”

I don’t have a clue as to how to make it switch automatically or why it did and now does not.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Mike

Ps.

I didn’t make clear that the computers do know when the headset it plugged in.

I get the sound and it is available in the sound configuration dialog in control panel so it's not a matter of the USB device not being recognized it just doesn’t make it the active device when it is plugged in.
