Running Arcserve 7.0 (fully patched) on a NW5.1 server running SP5 backing up to an Ultrium 1 drive (but we've had the problem on DLT's too)

So far I've tried...

Repackaging the job with a different user id that we've tested can login to the tree normally
Recreating the SMDR and NW backup queues
Deleting the Arcswerve and Btrieve MKDE databases
Submitting jobs directly from the server console using a variety of userid's
Rebooting the server

Rebooting the server seems to do the trick, but usually around 3-4 days later, it starts happening again AAAAAAGGGGGGHHH!

After consulting the CA website, I came to the conclusion that in future when faced with an Arcserve issue, I might as well just go and ask the water cooler!

Any help will, as always, be greatly appreciated.

On your server, check for the following:

a) Server contains a Read/Write replica of its parent container (OU)

b) ARCserve is definately fully patched (as per the CA website)

c) The file SYS:ETC\HOSTS contains a valid entry for the host server itself and any remote servers it may back up

d) Check to ensure the server is configured to point at valid DNS servers. You can do this via INETCFG or check the file SYS:ETC\RESOLV.CFG

If you change any of the above, a reboot will be required for the changes to take effect (REINITIALIZE SYSTEM will not work!).
