Hello

We're running SQL 2000 sp4 and want to know if its possible to prevent users logging in using the same details?
Currently using sql authentication and wondering how each sql login can sign on only once at any one time?

Cheers

How are people logging in? Directly to Enterprise Manager or Query Analyzer? Or they logging in via an application?

Oh, wait. A thought just occured to me. Switch your server authentication mode to Windows Authentication (only, not mixed mode) and map the appropriate domain accounts to SQL Server.

That will force everyone to use their own login and they won't all be able to use the same SQL login because SQL logins will be disabled.

BTW, I know of no way to force a SQL login to only accept 1 persistant connection via SQL Server. You might be able to do this via a connection object in your application, but it won't prevent people from logging into EM or QA with the SQL login.

There is no way to force a login to only be able to be used once. You would have to write this into the software that they are using to connect.
