logical volume - available vs. defined

I am trying to define a new logical volume. I have done so, and mounted it on a folder, called /apps.

When I do a df -k, this logical volume does not appear. I defined it as JFS, and mounted it. When I do a lsdev, it appears. What I notice, however, is that it has a description of "available." The logical volumes that were created upon installation of the BOS are labeled "defined."

Why do I not see it when I do a df -k, and why is it labeled "available," not "defined?"

Thanks for your help and patience.

When you run 'df -k' the LV should show up in the left-most column and the filesystem will show up in the right-most column under the heading 'mounted on' which in your case would be /apps.

What is the full lsdev command you are using?

The steps to create a new file system would be:
mklv
crfs
mount

I used the SMIT. I can't verify that.

However, I think I have the sequence wrong for mounting.

I just redid it, and it showed up. I think I tried to "inverse" mount. That is, I mounted the logical volume to the folder, instead of the folder to the logical volume.

I have it now.

Thank you!
